I am a lady that believes in the power of affirmations. I find that when I go to my affirmations it helps me be the person I want to be.

One person I pride myself in being is a person who brings their own container.

Throwing a party? I am packing my own container, utensils, and bottle.

Conference that is serving lunch? I am bringing my own container to not only save plastic, but also provide dinner for later.

Work potluck? I remind others to bring their container, too.

Want to pick up to-go food on the way home? Cool, I've got my container in my truck.

I am a lady that brings her own container.

Bringing my own container has moved from an affirmation to a habit. One way that I have formed this habit is by not allowing myself to get food if I don't have my own container. For instance, the other day there were hors d'oeuvres being served before an event. I didn't have my container so I didn't eat them despite how good they looked. I didn't want to take a plate to turn around and throw it away two minutes later. I will admit, I did put a few pieces of cheese in my hand. Not the most "proper" way of eating, but I saved a plate from the garbage, so I felt alright about it.

Affirmations are a powerful way to form new habits. Here are a few to try on:

I say no to plastic. I reuse.

I am an environmental steward.

I help the earth.

I care about our environment.

I reduce my waste.

I am a conscious consumer.

I make a difference.
